Set against the vibrant backdrop of Punjab, the show challenges conventional notions of beauty and brings alive the thought ‘Surat Nahi, Seerat’
Dangal TV is all set to launch its new show ‘Sohni – Aur Nahi Koi Honi’, a heartwarming drama that challenges conventional perceptions of beauty, love and self-worth. Set against the vibrant backdrop of Punjab, the show introduces an unconventional heroine whose greatest strengths lie not in her appearance, but in her intelligence, kindness, courage and character.
Played by Indraxi Kanjilal , Sohni is unlike the conventional television heroine. She wears thick spectacles, has prominent front teeth, a dusky complexion and dresses simply. Often judged and teased for her appearance, Sohni refuses to let people’s opinions define her. Having lost her parents at a young age and being forced to leave school, Sohni works hard to support herself and her younger brother Bittu. Despite the hardships she faces, she remains kind-hearted and selfless, determined to build a better future for her family.
Her life takes an unexpected turn when she crosses paths with Kabeer Dhawan , played by Sumit Bharadwaj. Kabeer is a wealthy, charismatic and flamboyant young man who belongs to the glamorous world of Chandigarh’s fashion industry. As the son of renowned fashion designer Mallika Dhawan, Kabeer’s life revolves around fashion, style and appearances — a world completely different from Sohni’s simple life in the bylanes of Naushera. But when he encounters a mysterious girl who keeps her face concealed behind a dupatta, an unexpected twist unfolds as Kabeer finds himself drawn towards her and gradually falls in love.
At the heart of ‘Sohni – Aur Nahi Koi Honi’ is the powerful thought “Surat nahi, Seerat” that a person’s true worth should be defined by their character rather than their appearance. Through Sohni’s journey, the show challenges the stereotypical portrayal of beauty on television and celebrates a heroine who is unapologetically different.
Akshat Singhal, Director – Enterr10 TV Network said, “With ‘Sohni – Aur Nahi Koi Honi’, we wanted to tell a story that goes beyond conventional definitions of beauty. Sohni may not fit the stereotypical image of a television heroine, but her intelligence, kindness, courage and self-belief make her truly special. The thought ‘Surat nahi, Seerat’ is at the heart of the show, and we hope audiences connect with her journey and look beyond appearances to recognise the person within. At Dangal TV, we continue to explore stories and characters that create an emotional connection with our viewers, and Sohni is a celebration of individuality, resilience and inner beauty.”
Talking about playing Sohni, Indraxi Kanjilal said, “Sohni is a very special character because she challenges the usual idea of what a heroine is expected to look like. She is simple, wears thick glasses and is often judged by people around her, but she never allows that to affect her positivity or self-belief. What I love most about Sohni is that her intelligence, kindness and self-respect are her real strengths. I am happy to be part of a show with such a meaningful thought, and I hope audiences embrace Sohni and her journey.”
Sumit Bharadwaj , who plays Kabeer, added, “Kabeer and Sohni come from two completely different worlds. Kabeer has grown up surrounded by fashion, glamour and privilege, while Sohni’s world is simple and grounded. Their first interaction itself comes from a misunderstanding, which makes their journey even more interesting. As their worlds come together, Kabeer begins to see things differently, and audiences will discover many layers to their relationship. I am excited for viewers to experience this unusual and heartwarming journey.”
‘Sohni – Aur Nahi Koi Honi’ premieres on 5th October, Monday to Saturday at 9.00 PM, only on Dangal TV.
